In 1912 Alexander McConechy Scott established a foundry in Wharf Street, Ipswich. The business supplied Ipswich City Council with pipes, and made castings for mines. Post World War II the business was bought by Queensland Industries, and subsequently by Hadfields Steelworks. The company had a machine shop at West Ipswich where they produced large scale items like coal washing plants and railway wagons. They also fabricated 64 steel girders for the David Trumpy Bridge in the 1960s.

In 1973 Scotts was purchased by Vickers Ruwolt.
