Ipswich Drug Hall

W. N. Jeffrey, a Member of the Pharmaceutical Society, opened Ipswich Drug Hall in Brisbane Street in July 1886, located opposite Australian Joint Stock Bank and Royal Bank, and just a few doors up the street from the Palais Royal Hotel. Ipswich Drug Hall was a dispensing and manufacturing pharmacy that stocked perfumes, chemicals, drugs and patent medicines. Jeffrey had prior dispensing experience in England, New South Wales and Victoria before landing in Ipswich to practice here. He was a compounding chemist who also extracted teeth and fitted false teeth. 

In July 1889 George Hudson purchased the business. Hudson also was a pharmaceutical chemist and surgical & mechanical dentist. He imported drugs and chemicals for Ipswich Drug Hall. A few years later he would go on to have great success with Hudson's Eumenthol Jujubes, a product which he developed in Ipswich. The name Ipswich Drug Hall is used until  mid 1892. Hudson continued to practice under the moniker of George I. Hudson, Chemist & Dentist, maintaining premises in Brisbane Street into the early 20th century.
