UFS Dispensary | Friendly Care Pharmacy
Established 1901 when a group of local lodges came together to create the business to benefit their members. It was operated as a Friendly Society and was also known as Ipswich & West Moreton UFS Dispensary or UFS Friendly Society Ltd.
It was located at 146 Brisbane Street. UFS were tenants of this building from 1902 until c1946. Originally the building was referred to as Tatham's Buildings because William Tatham had built it and his bookselling and stationery business had been located there at one time. In 1920 UFS purchased the freehold of the building including 3 shops and basement. This site was neighbouring the Motor Garage at 144 Brisbane Street, constructed in 1911 that was to become Cribb & Foote's Motor Garage by 1913.
UFS Dispensary was still operating in 1997. By this time customers paid an annual fee and received discounts on purchases of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
UFS Dispensary is now known as Friendly Care Pharmacy located at 13 Bell Street, and other locations. It has been at this location since at least 2014.
