Frank V. Kunze's Pharmacy

When T. F. Hall retired in 1944, he sold his chemist shop  to Frank Kunze. In 1948, Kunze's Pharmacy would be just one of 17 chemists in the 8th zone (West Moreton) of the Pharmaceutical Guild. The pharmacy was located seven doors from the Post Office at 96 Brisbane Street in O'Sullivan's building, near the intersection of Bell Street. At this time, neighbouring businesses included: W. Brookman the jeweller, Mathers shoe store and Modern Meat Mart.  

Frank V. Kunze's Pharmacy were a dispensing chemist selling patent medicines and drugs,  beauty products, tonic wine,  and offering photo developing & printing. They also had a mail order business for country clientele. During the 1940s and 1950s the pharmacy's brand was regularly heard on local radio 4IP. In 1950, the business introduced a stroller hire service for mothers shopping with young children. When the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme commenced that year, Kunze's was one of only 7 chemists in the area chosen to participate in the scheme to dispense free drugs. 

By 1961, both Gay Styles and Frank V. Kunze, Family Chemist claimed to be trading from 96 Brisbane Street. The chemist shop was at street level next to Modern Meat Mart and Gay Styles may have been on the floor above. It is not known how long Kunze's remained in this location.

Frank V. Kunze lived at the Grande Hotel in Brisbane Street for many years. He died in 1981.
