W. Brookman Jeweller
William Brookman maintained a jewellery shop and watch repair service in O'Sullivan's Buildings in Brisbane Street, a few doors from the Post Office, from at least 1946 into the 1960s. The shop sold wedding and engagement rings, watches and clocks, cutlery, compacts and lighters, earrings and sunglasses.
O'Sullivan's Buildings were across Brisbane Street from Thomson's Buildings where Brookman's Billiard Saloon (owned by his brother) was tenanted.
Other retail tenants of O'Sullivan's Buildings in 1946 were Col Cameron the butcher, Kunze the chemist, and Mathers shoe store. The upper storey was residential at this time.
In September 1949 a new Brookman's opened. This appears to have been a simple relocation within O'Sullivan's Buildings as the business continued to be located there in Brisbane Street. Perhaps from 1949, but certainly by 1960, W. Brookman Jeweller is located upstairs above the shops of Kunze and Modern Meat Mart. Jackson & Meyers is also trading from the building.
