Badke's

E. F. Badke owned a hairdressing establishment in Nicholas Street, next to the Gas Company office, from at least 1928. At the time they did marcel waving, hair dyeing, and permanent waves. Hairdressing for both men and women was available. There was a men's department and a women's department with separate entrances to the building. Beauty treatments were also available including eyebrow arching and face massage. At this time the business was called E. Badke's Ladies' Hairdressing & Beauty Culture Salon. Later it would simply be known as Badke's.

In March 1934, the salon moved around the corner into Brisbane Street, opposite St Paul's Church, just past Bayards, situated between the Royal Cafe (later to be the Regal Cafe) and Haigh's, with Duncalfe's Menswear and the North Star Hotel further down the block. Both men and women were styled and groomed in separate areas in this new salon, with hair and beauty treatments available. The salon was also a Casket Agency, selling casket tickets.

Edward Ferdinand Badke lived in Booval for many years. For a time he was Vice President of the Ladies' Hairdressing Association of Queensland. He was sometimes billed as Ipswich's leading ladies' hairdresser.

It is not known when the salon closed although Badke's was still operating in the same location until at least December 1954.
