The Royal Cafe opened on Thursday 14 September 1933 in Shillito's building on Brisbane Street, next to Bayards, and opposite St Paul's Anglican Church.The proprietor was Con Honianakis. Oysters, fish, and grills were the speciality of the establishment.
In early 1941 Con Honianakis sold the cafe and shortly after it was re-opened as the Regal Cafe.
Following the sale, Con resumed selling fish in Nicholas Street, next to Beirne's.
