London Pharmacy
Part of the Cribb and Foote empire, the London Pharmacy was established in early 1907 in a building previously occupied by Qld Woollen Manufacturing Co. Prior to that the site had been used by Queensland National Bank.
London Pharmacy located at 114 Brisbane Street in Ipswich was next to the Post Office. Originally, they were wholesale and retail chemists and importers of drugs. The first manager was C.H. Howes who had previously managed Ipswich & West Moreton Friendly Societies' dispensary.
Their new larger premises next to the Post Office were designed by George Brockwell Gill and opened 11th February 1909, with a veterinary hospital at the rear. The contractors were Wilson and Pickles. Shopfitters were Perry and Betts. Joinery by A. Foote. Drugs were stored in the basement. Amber glass was used to protect the contents from deterioration by exposure to light.
In 1910 William H. Foote was the Managing Director, and the Secretary was Mr. Henry S. Cribb.
By 1941, Wilkinsons owned London Pharmacy.
In 1949 the federal government purchased the property once operated by the London Pharmacy and in 1954 the old property began to be used as Postal Area Headquarters.
