Moreton Shire

Moreton Shire was constituted on the 28th July 1917. Previously Ipswich Shire, the Council had requested the name change to Moreton to avoid confusion with the neighbouring Ipswich City, which it surrounded, like a horseshoe, on three sides.

By 1988, Moreton Shire covered an area of 1,813 square kilometers, with a population of 38,000. The Shire stretched from Fernvale in the north, Minden in the west, Rosevale in the south

The area was divided into four council divisions:
