Edwin Samuel Moore

Edwin Samuel Moore died at the very young age of 8 after drowning in Warrill Creek. The Queensland Times reported:

It is our painful duty to record another death by drowning - this time a boy of between eight and nine years old, son of Mr. Edward Moore, of Warrill Creek. It appears, that the lad was returning from school, on Thursday afternoon, and had gone ahead of his two sisters, who usually accompanied him. He had to cross Warrill Creek to reach home, and the only means of crossing was a fallen log, which had been used by persons in the neighbourhood for some years past. The poor lad must have missed his footing and fallen into the creek, for on his sisters crossing at the same place they found his bat floating in the water. They immediately raised an alarm, and the neighbours were in speedy attendance, and lent every assistance to recover the body. About an hour elapsed before this was accomplished, Mr. Patrick Ryan and Mr. John Kerrigan being in the meantime very energetic in diving after the body. The usual means were tried to restore animation, but without avail. It appears that the poor boy had been drowned in a deep water hole close to the log, and then had drifted down stream to a place where there was some five feet of water. The funeral took place yesterday, and was attended by all the settlers in the neighbourhood.
