William John Moore died in an accident at Georgetown through a fall of earth in his claim (No. 2 Golden Crown) on 16 January 1879.
The Australian reported that:
Mr. William John Moore, eldest son of Mr. Edward Moore, of Warrill Creek, was killed on Thursday last whilst working on one of the reefs in Georgetown. He and a younger brother were mining together, when a quantity of earth suddenly fell in, crushing the unfortunate young man instantly to death, the other narrowly escaping a similar fate.
