YouTube LinkTitleIpswich Artists - Chasing Our PastDate Created27th February 2024Program Chasing Our PastPresenterGlen SmithHostBec LewisAcknowledgementIpswich Libraries Programming TeamCity & StateIpswich, Queensland DescriptionLike old Ipswich houses, names and memories of artists who once called Ipswich home have been lost. This presentation will bring back to life some of the names and stories of past Ipswich artists, like lessons in Queens Park with Arch Gratton in 1960s and 70s.
There will be some familiar names, but there are others that have been revealed through research, and their stories need to be remembered and recorded.
Some of these stories will delight and amaze you, shining a light on artists who have enriched Ipswich's creative legacy. Who knew that Ipswich had such a creative past?About the PresenterGlen Smith is the current President of ArtsConnect Ipswich. In this role, he promotes art and culture within the Ipswich region. He has been recognised for his work with two Ipswich Australia Day Awards - 2018 Cultural Award and 2021 Ipswich Citizen of the Year along with two Ipswich City medallions.
He shares his passion for the sector with a column in the local paper and a segment called ‘Get Your ARTS in Gear’ on the local radio.
Glen is also an award-winning local visual artist with wins at the Ipswich Art Awards in 2022 (People’s Choice) and 2017 (Painting) and the Ipswich Hospice Art Awards in 2020 (Champion Artwork). He has also been a finalist in the Moreton Bay Art Awards and Gold Coast Morris Art Awards, with other firsts at a variety of regional art competitions.Asset TypeWebinar / Talk - MP4Sound RecordingYesCopyright NoticeTo use this work, please contact the Picture Ipswich Digital Archivist.CopyrightPicture Ipswich Copyright InformationBuildings & StructuresRocktonCommunity GroupsThe Marburg GroupPeople & Familiesd'Arcy Doyle (1932-2001)Gwyn Hanssen Pigott (1935-2013)Bessie Gibson (1886-1961)Biggingee Sorabjee PocheeFrancis Arnold Whitehead (1864-1943)Benjamin Hurst Taylor (1857-1916)Laura Lydia Haneke (nee Taylor)Laura Jane Taylor (nee Harris) (1857- )Angela GeertsmaHelen Haenke (1916-1978)Caroline Baker (1944-1988)Peter Harley (1873-1941)George Ward Roots (1878-1956)Harry CotterellGeorge LancasterJames WienekeArch GrattonJohn ZarrinBonnie Stephens (1919-2013)Rev David Allan BinnsBrian IsgoodDianne McDonaldWill MitchellChris DaveyJudith BakerMel WrenPauline HowardBruce Buchanan - ArchitectSubjectsArtArtistsPaintersSculptors Photographers ArchitectsCurated CollectionsChasing Our Past At Home
