Bruce Buchanan - Architect
Bruce Buchanan, is an architect, heritage expert and artist.
After graduating from Queensland Institute (now University of Technology) in 1966, Bruce followed in the footsteps of so many other young architecture graduates and departed for London where he worked with Geoffrey Jellicoe, one of the 20th century's leading landscape architects in the UK.
This work, combined with Bruce’s innate love and interest in architecture, history and art, would influence the course of his professional life, as an architect and as an artist.
He established his own practice in Ipswich in 1975. Until 2010, his architectural practice included commissions for new buildings and alterations, but he is probably best known for the extensive work he and his late wife Robyn undertook in heritage conservation, restoration, and interpretation in Ipswich and further afield in Queensland and nationally.
Bruce is an accomplished landscape painter, specialising in industrial and urban landscapes, and rural and coastal locations. He has shown in numerous galleries and exhibitions since 1997, and also undertakes commissions for private and corporate clients.
He is recognised as a master watercolourist and has received many awards for his art work including the Best Watercolour in the Ipswich Art Awards and the Best of Show in the Brisbane Rotary Art Spectacular. Bruce was one of eight watercolourists selected to represent Australia in the Fabriano in Acquarello Exhibition in Italy in 2019 and 2020.
