Stone Quarry Cemetery

In May 1875, twenty-eight residents of Seven Mile Creek wrote to the Colonial Secretary requesting the establishment of a local cemetery. Prior to this, burials for the community were conducted at the Ipswich General Cemetery. 

In June 1875, the Department of Lands approved the creation of a Permanent Reserve for a cemetery within the Parish of Jeebropilly.  Shortly afterward, on 2nd July 1875, James Luke Kelly and Harold Victor Turnbull were appointed as Trustees. The first recorded internment was that of Franz Runge, a 24-year old man, in September 1879.

On 12th April 1948, the Trustees informed the Department of Lands that they were no longer able to manage the Cemetery and requested that the responsibility of the Cemetery be placed under the control of the Rosewood Shire Council.  Following subsequent local government amalgamations, the cemetery is now administered by Ipswich City Council.

The cemetery has also been known as Seven Mile Creek and Ebenezer Cemetery and Jeebropilly Cemetery.
