Children's Heritage Trails
Three children's heritage trails were created and launched in 2018 for children in Year 5 but with an appeal to children of other ages. The Children’s Heritage Trails complement the existing “Then and Now” Heritage Trails, which are more suited to older students and adults. Each area in the new trails include six to seven stops, making the walks manageable for school aged children and their teachers or parents.
The concept for the trails was for children to follow the journey of eight year old Sienna who travels back in time where she meets George (also 8) who is living at Ipswich in the 1890s. The children compare what their town is like, talk about what is the same, and what is different. They decide to use Sienna’s ‘Time Travel Balloon’ to visit Ipswich in the two time periods to see how the city has grown from its early days as a small town.
