Richey Family

James was born on 22 September 1843 at Cloghen in Ireland. He served his apprenticeship in a drapery firm and went on to work for a Drapery establishment in Dublin.

At the age of 21 he made the move to Australia. On arriving in Ipswich in 1865, he worked for Cribb and Foote being in charge of the men's Mercery department. He returned to Ireland in 1870 for a short time before once again moving to Ipswich and working for Cribb and Foote for a further fifteen years. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Traders' Association and he was the Treasurer of the Methodist Church in Ipswich. He enjoyed gardening and bowling.

James and Sarah lived in Ferrett Street, Sadliers Crossing.

Sarah Richey died on 16 July 1926 at the age of 76 in Ipswich, Queensland. She had been a resident of Ipswich for fifty-two years and was  a member of the Central Methodist Church. Sarah was an avid gardener and won many prizes at horticultural shows.
