Ipswich Early European Arrivals (1842-1904)
The Ipswich Early European Arrivals collection recognise the people who arrived in Ipswich between 1842 and 1904. This date range reflects the period that covers when the area was opened to free settlement to the year that Ipswich was no longer considered to be a "Town" and was proclaimed a "City".
In 2010, Ipswich celebrated the Sesqui-Centenary (150 years) of the Municipality of Ipswich. One of the ways the City of Ipswich commemorated this highly significant anniversary was to hold a function for descendants of early European arrivals with the aim of collecting information and creating a collection of early European residents in the Ipswich area. We have continued to collect information long after the Sesqui-Centenary and welcome any new information.
If your ancestors lived or arrived in Ipswich between 1842 and 1904 we would love to hear from you. Please contact Picture Ipswich if you know more: LibPictureIpswich@ipswich.qld.gov.au
