William Henderson (1828-1915)

The Henderson Siblings including William decided to leave Scotland in the early 1860s. One brother went to the United States of America and the remaining siblings came to Australia. William Henderson travelled to Australia with his wife Anna (Ann) and their children James and Janet  in 1863 as assisted immigrants aboard the Black Ball clipper ship 'Star of England' and arrived at the port of Moreton Bay. One of his brothers went to the United States of America and the remaining siblings came to Australia. William's sister Janet travelled on the same ship as William and Ann with her married family the Archibald's.

Ann was pregnant during the voyage from Scotland/England, she gave birth to a son named John Young Henderson on 30 October 1863, about a month after their arrival. William and Ann Henderson had six children over twelve years but unfortunately four of the children died when they were infants.

In Ipswich William held licenses to ply wood and to draw wood and water and he had a paddock at Three Mile Creek. The family lived in Ipswich from 1864 to approximately 1868. William was a coal miner or mining engineer in Scotland and may have worked in coal mines in Ipswich.

William and his family left Ipswich and moved to Wallsend in Newcastle in approximately 1868 where their youngest child William George Henderson was born in 1870. They moved to Swan Street, Hamilton in the late 1800s.  Ann died on 13 November 1904 in Hamilton, New South Wales.
