Robert Hunter, Tailor

Robert Hunter, a Scottish immigrant, was head cutter at T. H. Archibald's tailoring establishment for several years before going into business himself. Within mere days of Archibald announcing that he was closing down, Robert Hunter opened up shop. It was April 1916 and the business was located in Goleby's Buildings, Brisbane Street. 

Hunter was known as "a high class tailor" and sometimes as "the practical tailor". In 1922 his stock included Indigo serges, Saltaire grey suitings, brown pinstripes, gaberdines, and cream trouserings. Alex Nichol was employed as Hunter's head cutter through the 1920s and would later purchase the business in January 1939 after Hunter died. Hunter's firm endured in Ipswich for twenty-two years through very challenging financial times.
