In 2010, Ipswich celebrated 150 years of Municipal Government.
On 3rd March 1860, Ipswich was proclaimed a municipality, just three months after the Colony of Queensland's separation from New South Wales.
Events in 2010 included a commemorative council meeting held on 12th April, the publication of the Ipswich 150 Local History Scholarship Reports, and the first use of new Mayoral Chains commemorating all past Mayors of the City.
