DescriptionAt a time when few families owned cars, and refrigerators were only just starting to become affordable, the corner store was at the center of community life.
The corner store stocked everything from newspapers, fresh bread, milk, in-season fruits and vegetables, ice-cream, and lollies, all within a few minutes-walk from home.
Corner stores were not only a place to shop; they also offered an opportunity for neighbours to meet and have a chat. People knew their local shopkeeper and shopkeepers knew their customers!
