Saba Bros.

Saba Brothers drapery and mercery opened in Nicholas Street, beside Whitehouse's Cafe, on Thursday 4 March 1937. They sold fabrics, ladies & children's wear, men's & boys wear, and manchester. 

1937 was a big year for the firm in Ipswich. First they opened their new store, then they moved, and then they expanded further. Within a couple of months of opening the business was thriving and larger premises were sought so they moved next to Mathers shoe store still in Nicholas Street, exchanging premises with Grace Salon. This dressmaking business and frock shop removed to the premises next to Whitehouse's, and Saba Bros. assumed Grace's previous location. Within another couple of months Saba Bros. expanded into Mathers' premises who then moved to Brisbane Street. On 12 August 1937 Saba Bros. had a grand opening sale to celebrate the move. 

In the 1950s Rockmans were located next to Saba Bros. 

Saba Bros. premises (their second location) in Nicholas Street was one of only a few buildings in the street that survived the revitalisation of the CBD project in the mid 1980s. A Bendigo Bank branch occupied the building for several years.
