History

Built in 1914, Bowerbank for original owners William and Florence Fox. William was a well-known chemist known locally as Fox the Chemist. The chemist shop was located in Brisbane Street, just below the Ipswich Post Office. The name Bowerbank was based on the maiden name of Mrs Fox, who was the daughter of former Ipswich mayor, Maurice Bowers. The house features a fox on the gatepost.

The house features an octagonal porch. Mrs Fox and her daughter, Nell, moved to Bowerlea in 1929 after William Fox’s death.
