Description
Place TypeSuburbsHistory
The name of Sir James Blair’s house in William Street, evidently originated from coal seams at the riverbank. James was the son of Gordon Blair and he was born on 16 May 1871 in the family home in Harlin Road overlooking the Bremer River. James went to school at West Ipswich, followed by John Scott’s School in Brisbane Street before receiving a scholarship to attend the Ipswich Grammar School. He graduated at the Queensland bar and was a Barrister at the age of 23, entered politics to adorn them as Attorney-General and Minister for Public Instruction, made fame as an orator in Parliament Court, was Chief Justice for 15 years, was made Lieutenant-Governor. He retired at the age of 70.
