Federal Hotel

The Federal Hotel at 214 Brisbane Street, West Ipswich was constructed near "the cutting", at the intersection of Brisbane and Burnett Streets. Permission was gained in 1906 from the Licensing Authority to construct a new residential hotel. The hotel opened Wednesday 3 July 1907. The hotel was designed to suit its triangular shaped block by H.E. Wyman. The contractor was Mr J. Whitehead. The pub boasted 9 bedrooms upstairs, with 23 rooms in total. 

In the late 1990s after internal renovations the Federal became known as "The Squealing Pig", an Irish themed pub. 

In 2022 the pub has a bottle shop in front.
