DescriptionHouse nos. 3, 7, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20.Aberfeldy at No. 3 Syntax Street, was designed by architect Henry Wyman for William and Mary Kippen. It was built around 1878. William Kippen was born in Scotland and came to Australia when he was aged 5. The house is named after Aberfeldy in Scotland. He joined the Queensland Times newspaper at the age of 14 and eventually became it chairman of directors. Esperanza, at No. 7 Syntax Street, Jacob and Ann Born (nee Hewlitt moved into the house after marrying in 1870. Originally a small cottage it would be extended by the Borns until it was a 20 room dwelling. Jacob worked for Cribb & Foote from 1863 to 1928. He was a prominent member of the Ipswich community. Esperanza means ˜House of hope" No. 18 Syntax Street, first house designed by Will Haenke References (offline)Ipswich City Council 'Heritage Study, 1991'.
