National Bank of Australasia

The National Bank of Australasia was established in Melbourne in 1858.

After George Thorn's Queen's Arms Hotel was demolished c1875, a new building was constructed on the site by Enoch Bostock. It was bought by the Queensland National Bank in 1881. In 1948 the Qld National Bank was absorbed by the National Bank of Australasia Ltd.. The bank remained here on the corner of East and Brisbane Streets at 89 Brisbane Street, until 1973. 

For sometime Dorothybelle Cake Shop was next door on Brisbane Street.

The National Bank of Australasia also had premises at 112 Brisbane Street, beside Fox the chemist. Ray Jones' bookshop and library was housed in the floor above the bank for many years.

The bank is now known as National Australia Bank (NAB). In 1996 a specialised Business Banking Centre  was opened at 23 Gordon Street.
