Queensland National Bank

Prospectus and shares were first offered for the proposed Queensland National Bank in March 1872. It was felt that it was time for a local bank in the colony. Head office was to be in Brisbane. 

The Queensland National Bank opened in Ipswich on 16 July 1874. John Ryan was the manager. It was located in an office in the School of Arts. Later the bank moved to a site that in the future would house London Pharmacy. 

Following that the bank was located on the corner of East and Brisbane Streets, Ipswich and on the former site of George Thorn's Queen's Arms Hotel. The pub was demolished c.1875 and the new building was erected by Enoch Bostock. The building was bought by the Queensland National Bank in 1881.

In 1948 the bank was absorbed by the National Bank of Australasia Ltd. and they remained in this building until 1973.

F.W. Wearne was the manager of the Qld National Bank from c.1930-1942.
