John Moss Marsh opened Marsh Motors in 1927 in the Electric Light Building, 164 Brisbane Street. In February 1928, the business moved into a newly constructed  brick building in Bell Street owned by his in-laws, Mr & Mrs Henry Walker of  "Corra Lyn" Glebe Road, Booval.  The architect was M. W. Haenke and Arthur Foote Ltd. supplied the joinery.

Marsh  Motors leased showroom, garage and parking station and would remain in Walkers Buildings for over 30 years. Initially, H. G. Walker the electrician occupied one of the 2 shops in the new building.

From early days there was a Shell Company of Australia petrol bowser in front of the business in Bell Street.

Marsh Motors were regulars at the Ipswich Show demonstrating the latest models of British and American vehicles that they sold.  In the beginning they were agents for Chrysler (Plymouth, De Soto, Dodge) but soon others followed including: Hillman, Humber, Hudson, Terraplane, Austin, Federation Trucks, Commer Trucks, buses and Field Marshall Tractors. By the 1950s Marsh Motors were also second-hand car dealers.

Marsh Motors traded until at least 1961. 

John Moss Marsh (Jack) died in 1972.
