The Bellevue Hotel, corner of Downs and Canning Streets in North Ipswich ceased trading at 10pm on 1 January 1966.
Ron Neilsen, formerly of the North Star Hotel in Ipswich, and his brother Ray built the Northside Motel (later known as the Motel Monaco) on this site in 1967.
Local company Teefy & Co. built the motel which consisted of 12 self-contained units, plus a restaurant located adjacent to Lennon Lane and near the North Ipswich T.A.B.
Ron was a patron of the Ipswich Auto Club.
