Chuwar Hotel
Description
Dates1858-1861Business TypeHotelsHistory
Purported to be the first hotel at North Ipswich, the Chuwar Hotel was opened by David Rodgers. It was located directly "opposite the road leading from the old pontoon ferry" which appears to have been at the intersection of The Terrace and Pine Street. The hotel seems to have operated under this name from at least 1858 to 1861. Subsequently the hotel was known as the Tramway Hotel in 1862, and in 1864 it became the Railway Hotel.
