Railway Hotel, North Ipswich
In March 1864 David Rodgers applies for a liquor license for a house that he owns located at the intersection of Pine Street and The Terrace. He lives there with his wife Janet and 2 children and intends to name the establishment the Railway Hotel. At the time it was known as the Tramway Hotel.
By 1864 David had held a publican's license for 3 years so those licenses must have applied to the Chuwar Hotel and the Tramway Hotel. Both businesses were located on this property.
In April 1885 he gave notice that he sought to transfer the license to Jane Bedford. From this date forward members of the Bedford family appear to have run the Railway Hotel until its demise. In 1898 Mrs J.W. Bedford was running the hotel. She was Rodgers's daughter. Then in 1921 Miss A. Bedford was licensee and in 1965 the hotel was described as belonging to Miss Amy Bedford.
In 1965 the Railway Hotel was described as being opposite Bessie Carmichael's store. It was demolished in May 1965 to make way for the new David Trumpy Bridge.
