Life Story

The Schmeider Family collection tells the story of Fredolin and Elisabetha Schmeider and their descendants.

Fredolin and Elisabetha immigrated to Australia from Germany in 1858. There was a small-pox outbreak on the ship they were on named the 'Fanny Kirchner' and it was placed in quarantine at Port Jackson in Sydney. Their first son, was born on board the ship. Unfortunately, the manifest for the ship which was recorded in Germany is lost as records in Germany were lost due to bombing during World War Two.

The family lived at Bundanba (Bundamba) before moving to Peak Mountain on a property named 'Hillside'.
