Australia Meat Holdings (AMH)
The site at Dinmore currently owned by AMH has been used for meatworks and abattoirs for around a century.
AMH bought the business in 1986 from Metro Meats who had purchased it from T.A. Field owner of Bremer River Abattoir Pty Ltd. in 1984. The new abattoirs had commenced operation 1 November 1958. Prior to that the site had been Dinmore Meat Works opening 27 July 1955, and Slack's Slaughter Yard. In pioneering days some of the land had belonged to the David Nunn family of Dinmore. They sold Nunn's Paddock to Slack's Slaughter Yard. James Joseph Slack applied for a slaughtering licence at Dinmore in March 1926, however it is not clear whether this was the start of Slack's Slaughter Yard.
AMH was owned by Swift & Co. an American firm, had 2300 employees in 2005 and was a 24 hour operation. As well as meat, by-products were edible tallow and gelatin, dried blood plasma for pet and stock foods. This plant regardless of ownership has for decades consistently been one of the largest employers in the Ipswich region.
AMH was purchased by JBS in 2007. JBS was established in Brazil in 1953 and is now the world's largest meat and food processing company. In 2021 the Dinmore plant has 1100 employees. They are large exporters of meat, notably to China.
