DescriptionErnest Henry William Meyers enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces on 13th January 1915, aged 18. He had a highly decorated military career, serving for 5 months at Gallipoli before being sent to France. Meyers was wounded several times. For gallantry at Polygon Wood, Lehnos and the Hidenberg Line, he was awarded three Military Cross awards. Meyer was the only Queenslander during the First World War to receive three Military Crosses. On returning home he became an auctioneer at Jackson and Meyers. During WWII, he served his country as a Brigadier of the Volunteer Defence Corps. This portrait was taken at the time of his presidency of the Ipswich Bowls Club in 1950.References (offline)Queensland Times 16 March 1942
