Description

DescriptionWilliam Johnson was the son of Frederick William Johnson who started his coach business in Ipswich in 1884. William took over his father’s business with his brother Ernest Briggs Johnson in in 1920 and the firm began dealing in motor cars. William and his brother purchased the Old Flour Mill, in Brisbane Street West, in 1926 and it was used as a garage and motor car showroom. William Johnson fought in the third battle at Ypres on 20 September 1917 and was badly wounded on the first day. He returned to Australian in February 1917 with two pieces of shell still in his chest. William later founded and became managing director of the 4IP Radio Station, Ipswich. He also funded the forming of the Ipswich Broadcasting Company with other local Ipswich businessmen.
