Description
DescriptionNancy White was an Ipswich musician who was born in England in 1907 and moved to Queensland at the age of 7 years. She attended the Bundamba State School. At a very young age Nancy was encouraged to attend piano lessons with an Ipswich teacher, Mrs Ponti. At the age of 17 she established a music teaching studio at Goleby’s building and later held classes at her home. Nancy was also a pianist for the Olympia and Wintergarden Theatre orchestras for silent pictures as well as being an organist for the Methodist Church on Ellenborough Street, Ipswich. In 1939 Nancy married Ipswich singer Ray Jones and lived with him at their home, ‘Mayorene’ on Roderick Street, Ipswich. Nancy Jones performed as an accompanist for her husband Ray Jones on the ABC Radio and was also a conductor for the Silkstone Booval Choral Union and the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir for more than 30 years. Nancy Jones was also a foundation member of the Ipswich Quota Club and the Ipswich Little Theatre and received a life membership for the Music Teacher Association of Queensland and the Queensland Eisteddfod Council.
