Description

DescriptionOliver Perry arrived in Ipswich in 1883. He was elected to the Ipswich City Council as an Alderman and served from 1917 to 1924 and again from 1933 to 1936. He served as Mayor from 1930 until 1932. When Perry first arrived in Ipswich, he was working as a carpenter. From 1915 until the end of the First World War he was the secretary of the Ipswich Patriotic Committee. He was also Chairman of the local Red Cross branch; the School of Arts Committee; Chair and Treasurer of the Technical College Committee and Treasurer of the Board of Management of the Ipswich General Hospital. Perry was captain of the Ipswich Rifle Club for 15 years, and was involved with the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir, City Vice-Regal Band and Ipswich City Concert Orchestra.
