Phoenix Engineering
In 1884 with James Frost, Frederick Springall commenced trading as Messrs. Springall and Frost, Engineers and Rolling-stock Manufacturers in Lowry Street North Ipswich. This is the site of CSI today, previously Ipswich RSL Club.
In early 1890 Frost and Springall floated the company and it became the Phoenix Engineering and Rolling Stock Company. They constructed steam locomotive engines.
Phoenix Engineering was located at North Ipswich between The Terrace and Lowry Street. Mr Felix Barbat became the manager of Phoenix Engineering and Rolling Stock Co. in 1895, following the departure of James Frost. Shortly into the 20th century Phoenix began to experience financial problems which led to Messrs. F. E. Barbat and Co. becoming the new owners in October 1902.
