Faulkner Motors

Jack Faulkner purchased a property on Brisbane Street in 1921 thus establishing Faulkner Motors in response to the growing popularity of motoring. They became agents for Overland and Whippet.

They were across the road from Pacific Motors in the top of town area at 150-154 Brisbane Street. Originally home to the Old Lyric Theatre (150 Brisbane St.), the building was designed by George Brockwell Gill and built by George Green. Faulkner Motors moved into the building in 1926 after alterations were made to include a large workshop at the back and a garage and showroom at the front. Property on the east side of the business was purchased in 1929 and a new building constructed. Both buildings were then occupied by Faulkner Motors. (In 2014, these buildings were occupied by Ipswich Healthy Hampers Co-op, Queensland First Aid and Choices flooring). 

After World War II Jack's son Don joined the family business. Don retired in 1971, leasing the business to General Motors. However he returned to work to take a franchise with Chrysler (which was eventually bought by Mitsubishi). This meant that Faulkners had 2 dealerships at the same time.  One was located on Warwick Road and the other on East Street. 

Faulkner Motors moved to the corner of South and East Street in 1958 (location of Ipswich Library from 1995–2021), and later to the corner of Warwick Road and Churchill Street, Ipswich (opposite the Ipswich General Hospital).

In the 1980s, Reginald (Reg, Reggie) Range was a salesman.

Faulkner Motors was in business for over 70 years  before closing sometime after 1997. 

In 1997 Faulkners was still at the Warwick Road location but was now a Mitsubishi dealer. 

Don Faulkner Motors Pty Ltd was de-registered in 2006. (ASIC Gazette)
