Description

DescriptionJohn (Jack) Dorney (1895-1968) married Muriel Brooker Green (1897-1987) on 28th August 1926. On October 2nd 1926, they, and their Airedale Terrier Laddie, set out on their honeymoon from the Brisbane GPO - a journey around Australia in an Overland Whippet.

The first part of their journey took them through Ipswich, with many of their friends following them as far as Goodna, before making it to the Little Liverpool Range on their first night. After 10,500 miles around the continent, they arrived back at the Brisbane GPO on the 26th March 1927.

Their journey was closely followed by the press and their exploits were used in marketing the Overland Whippet, including by Ipswich's Faulkner Motors, which hosted the vehicle at some point in 1927.
