DescriptionThe Centenary classroom block was opened in 1963 by Governor Henry Abel Smith. The architect was Dr Karl Langer (Brisbane) and the new building included science and teaching facilities. As this sign indicates, the appeal for the building fund ran for several years. The school was opened in 1863 and original buildings were designed by architect Benjamin backhouse. IGS was the first official secondary school in Queensland and the first Grammar School.
