DescriptionHerbert Marshall Foote bought the Rockdale Farm, 275 acres, in 1912. He named the farm because of the rocky hills and the fertile dales. It was also infested with prickly pear at the time. Herbert milked 60 head of Jersey cows by hand and reared 16-18 calves each year. He also reared pigs for selling and grew corn, pumpkins, and oats for hay. The Footes owned the farm from 1912 until 1961. Herbert married Daisy Brown in 1921. Daisy's grandfather, John Brown, owned the property at Couchin Couchin at one time but sold it because it was too far from Ipswich.
