J. M. Parlane

After the demise of Parlane & Fisher's business partnership, J. M. Parlane opened his own shop in July 1889 in Brisbane Street, directly opposite Bell Street. The establishment offered first class tailoring by S. A. Nichol (formerly of Parlane & Fisher) and menswear. Over the next few years their stock included tweeds, worsteds, hats, ties, shirts, studs, braces and hosiery. 

In the early twentieth century, besides being a businessman, John Parlane was also an Ipswich Police Court magistrate and an Ipswich Licensing District official. Because of these positions in town he would have been well known and respected. However, by mid 1913 his menswear business was insolvent with plant and stock being offered for sale by tender.  M. Antonio purchased the stock for a business in Laidley. In July,  Archibald & Loveday (tailors and gents outfitters) moved into Parlane's old premises. 

J. M. Parlane's firm was part of Ipswich's business landscape for almost a quarter of a century.
