Ipswich Children's Library, Ipswich Libraries (2021- )

Ipswich Children's Library is Australia's first purpose built public children's library.

It is a branch of Ipswich Libraries; members can borrow and return items and participate in booked library programs. The library is free to visit and open to the public, including non-members.

The Library is located on the ground floor of 1 Nicholas Street, underneath Ipswich City Council's administrative building. Mayor Teresa Harding officially opened the building on June 28th 2021. The building, children's library and Tulmur Place plaza were noted by the mayor as the centerpiece of the $246 million Ipswich Central redevelopment at the opening day event.

On opening, the library held over 35,000 items targeted for children from birth to 12 years old. These include books, magazines and DVDs. It also has an image-based children's catalogue designed to encourage young readers to get familiar with the library. 

Design and decoration were completed with children and families in mind; there are two life-sized plesiosaur dinosaurs suspended from the ceiling and a range of technologies aimed at children including pneumatic tubes, an interactive play table and augmented reality screens. A sizable parent's room is at the rear of the library and an covered outdoor space can be used by library visitors.

Events hosted by Ipswich Libraries at Ipswich Children's Library are aimed at children and parents.
