He did his darndest to get into them, dreaming that one day trucks would ply Australian highways with his name on the door. When Richie sold Beaumont Transport in 2014 after 45 years in the transport industry, more than 100 trucks went with the sale, and he had employed almost 2,000 people.
In her new book Whatever It Takes: The Beaumont Transport Story, Dr Toni Risson documents Richie's journey. Join Toni as she shares the Beaumont story which takes place in the context of much Ipswich history: the Ipswich Bus Service, Ipswich coal mines, the 1974 flood, heritage architecture, wartime difficulties, railway foreigners, Sadie the Tea Cup Lady and much more.References (offline)Dr Toni Risson is a storyteller and cultural historian who has penned everything from a picture book about mermaids to a PhD on lollies. An expert on Australia's Greek café phenomenon, she has written two books on the subject. Toni curated Meet me at the Paragon for the State Library of Queensland in 2019 - 2020 and continues to document this lost café culture.
