Economies of Ipswich
Ipswich's economic fortunes have fluctuated wildly within a boom and bust cycle; interdependent with markets around the state, country, and globe. Our boom and bust cycle has also been subjected to geopolitical and weather extremes. Queensland's Industrial Revolution happened here. Our primary industries were agriculture and mining. From these grew our secondary industries: the railway workshops to railways, boiling down works, potteries, woollen mills, clothing manufacturing, and food and beverage production. Tertiary industries soon followed with retail, building societies, cafe culture, tourism, education and technology developments.
