St Paul's history starts with an acknowledgment of the traditional owners, before moving through a period when Ipswich was part of the colony's frontier, and the first St Paul's school/church provided early education in the region. Many of the church's parishioners have been leading Ipswich citizens with colourful stories.

This discussion will examine the available resources for research on aspects of Ipswich's history and the intertwined history of Ipswich and St Paul's. 'We have to move beyond the modern fascination with TROVE searches and do the hard slugging in specialised libraries, archives and private collections.' About the PresenterThe Hon. Pat Comben AM is an Ipswich resident and a migrant to Australia with a varied background. After his lone arrival as a teenager he worked in rural Queensland before graduating from the University of Queensland. Pat was elected to Queensland's Parliament as the member for Windsor in 1983. He served as Minister for Heritage and Environment, and for Education, before retiring from politics in 1995. He has published biographies on the early Australian naturalist Frederick Strange, politician T.J. Ryan, and histories of Anglican churches, St Alban's, Wilston and St Mary's, Kangaroo Point.
