Ipswich Fruit Mart
James and John Dick (Dick Bros.) registered a firm in July 1921 and shortly after announced that they had opened tearooms in Brisbane Street, opposite the Australian Bank of Commerce, to be known as Ipswich Fruit Mart. This location was a few doors from the Ipswich Post Office on the same side of the road.
In 1922-1923 the business moved from one side of Brisbane Street to the other, more or less across the road, next to Brookman's Billiards Saloon. Around the time of the move an auction of fittings and furniture, due to transfer of the lease occurred which was conducted by Jackson & Meyers on 29 April 1922. It is unknown whether ownership of the fruit shop changed also.
By the early 1930s the Ipswich Fruit Mart was located in the Queensland Times building at the corner of Ellenborough and Brisbane Streets. It remained here until at least 1959. The Astor Cafe was next door at the corner from 1930-1933. The Viola Cake Shop & Tearooms were long-term next door neighbours on their other side on Brisbane Street.
