Life Story
William Bartlett/Bartley (known as Thomas)
William was christened on 10 June 1827 in Tirley, Gloucester in England. He died on 8th or 9th March 1872 aged 47 and was buried on 14 March 1872 at Glengallan Station Cemetery at Warwick in Queensland.
William was known as Thomas (Tom) Bartley. He married Jane Woods on 30 December 1848 in Elmley Castle, Worcestershire in England. Thomas and Jane arrived in Australia as assisted immigrants aboard the 'Argyle' in 1852 with their son Thomas was was born in June 1849 in Pershore, England. After arriving in Moreton Bay they travelled by river to Ipswich and lived at Little Ipswich (West Ipswich). Thomas worked as a bullock-driver for sometime around 1858. In 1861 Thomas purchased a block of land in Darling Street, Ipswich for 15 pounds.
In 1872 while Thomas was looking for work around the One Mile Hotel, he managed to get a job from Mr. John P Stewart, who was an overseer at Glengallan Station near Warwick. He was employed as Thomas Bartley, and started work on 7th March 1872. Only a few days later that it is believed that he slipped in the creek while jumping across from one bank to another, hitting his head and drowned. His body was found on 13th March by the paddock keeper, James Pittendrigh.

Jane was baptised on 15 February 1824 in Elmley Castle, Worcestershire in England. Jane had a son named William who was born on 17 September 1843 at Elmley Castle, Worchester, England. No father’s name was listed. This William is listed in the 1851 census as being six years old. He did not come to Australia with his mother. Jane married William (known as Thomas) Bartlett/Bartley in 1848.
Jane and Thomas Bartlett/Bartley had six children: Thomas, George Bartlett, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Frederick and William Frederick Bartlett. After Jane’s husband died in 1872, she lived in Ipswich and from 1878-1879 she lived in Margaret Street. In 1890, Jane was living with her eldest son Thomas Junior and his wife Jane in Milford Street, Ipswich when she passed away. She died on 11 June 1890.

George was born on 16 August 1853 in Ipswich Queensland and he was baptised on 4 September 1853. He became George William Bartley and he was the son of William (known as Thomas) and Jane Bartlett/Bartley. George married Eliza Jackson on 21 March 1881 and he died on 24 July 1912. He was buried in the South Brisbane Cemetery.
George was born on 16 August 1853 in Ipswich Queensland and he was baptised on 4 September 1853. He became George William Bartley and he was the son of William (known as Thomas) and Jane Bartlett/Bartley. George married Eliza Jackson on 21 March 1881 and he died on 24 July 1912. He was buried in the South Brisbane Cemetery.

Mary Ann was born on 3 May 1855 at Little Ipswich (West Ipswich) and was baptised on 29 July 1855 in Ipswich, Queensland. Mary Ann was the daughter of William (known as Thomas) and Jane Bartlett/Bartley.

Frederick died on 26 December 1920 at the age of fifty-nine.
